The terminology used to describe fabrication or induction of Illness by a carer is a subject of considerable debate amongst professionals. It has been known by a number of terms including:

Illness induction syndrome
Fabrication or Induced Illness (FII) is now the commonly used terminology, as it maintains focus on the child
